Abstract

This document presents the analysis and design of a porch, for tests on bending, compression, and others, on wooden structures, steel, natural scale concrete or small scale models. The configuration of the gantry consists of a rigid beam attached to column type elements that will allow you to go up and down, adjusting to the test requirement. A system of hydraulic actuators will also be attached to the gantry, for the application of loads, for which the positions on the beams are defined. The gantry must be a structure sufficiently rigid so as not to suffer permanent deformations, when testing structural models. The gantry will be used to determine mechanical properties such as resistance, deformation, stiffness and ductility, which are key in the behavior of the structures. With the use of the porch, students will learn to design, calculate, test, build and test varieties of real structures or small scales. This will promote creativity, ingenuity and skill in the face of the challenge of putting into practice the concepts learned in class, turning the engineering laboratory into a contributing entity of knowledge and experimental research. The design of the structure includes the design of: beams, columns, bolted beam-column connections resistant to moment, column connection - foundation by stiffened base plate, design of anchors, etc.
