| Abstract: | The variety of structures built by civil engineers are supported by the ground, generating stresses towards the geomaterials below the foundations. Within the design criteria established in the Ecuadorian Construction Policy 2015 (NEC-15), it must be ensured that the induced strain does not cause excessive deformation or failure on the ground or foundations. Therefore, it is essential to know the material properties that define its deformability and resistance, in order to elaborate a correct design for any type of infrastructure.
In recent years, geophysical methods have been introduced in Ecuador, and have contributed to the geological-geotechnical interpretation of soil profiles, the establishment of soil properties through correlations, and consequently in the execution of geotechnical studies. However, limited research to verify the validity of the correlations between the results of the geophysical test, and the geotechnical parameters used in practice for geotechnical designs, has been carried out.
Through the use of geophysical prospecting with multichannel surface wave analysis (MSWA), refraction seismic and conventional laboratory essays, such as direct shear and triaxial compression tests, this project achieved the geotechnical characterization of stratigraphic horizons of low depth in the Mangan formation of the city of Cuenca, which are located within the depth of stresses transmission in shallow foundations.
The results obtained after the application of these methods were contrasted to analyze the correlation between the geotechnical parameters obtained with direct methods, and the ratio between the compression and shear wave velocities. |
| Description: | La variedad de estructuras construidas por el ingeniero civil, están apoyan sobre el terreno, produciendo esfuerzos hacia los geomateriales por debajo de las cimentaciones. Dentro de los criterios de diseño establecidos en la Norma Ecuatoriana de la Construcción 2015 (NEC-15), se debe asegurar que los esfuerzos inducidos no causen deformaciones excesivas o la falla de los suelos o terreno de fundación. Por lo tanto, es imprescindible conocer las propiedades de los materiales que definan su deformabilidad y resistencia, con el fin de plantear el correcto diseño de cualquier tipo de infraestructura.
En los últimos años en el Ecuador se han introducido métodos geofísicos, que han contribuido en la interpretación geológica-geotécnica de perfiles de suelo, en la determinación de las propiedades mediante correlaciones y consecuentemente, en la ejecución de estudios geotécnicos. Sin embargo, ha habido limitada investigación en verificar la validez de las correlaciones entre los resultados de los ensayos geofísicos con los parámetros geotécnicos utilizados en la práctica para diseños geotécnicos.
Planteando el uso de la prospección geofísica con análisis multicanal de ondas superficiales (MASW), sísmica de refracción y ensayos de laboratorio convencionales, este proyecto logro la caracterización geotécnica de horizontes estratigráficos de baja profundidad de la formación Mangán de la Ciudad de Cuenca, los cuales se localizan dentro de la profundidad de transmisión de esfuerzos en cimentaciones superficiales.
Los resultados obtenidos tras el desarrollo de estos métodos fueron contrastados para analizar la correlación entre los parámetros geotécnicos obtenidos con métodos directos y velocidades de onda. |
