| Abstract: | The research studies modern architecture in Ecuador in the period
from 1940-1960, considering the architect Karl Kohn as one of the pioneers
of the modern movement in the country since his arrival in 1939 as a result of
the migration of the Czech Republic to Ecuador, research study the value of
Karl Kohn’s work in the country, through five cases of emblematic studies of
his work, which seek to immerse themselves and show that he was a pioneer
of modern architecture in the country.
Consequently, in order to achieve this goal, the study has as its starting
point the study of the archives of the architect’s complete work, thanks to the
rescue of drawings and drawings facilitated by the Kohn family archive. For
what was done the chronological classification of the documents obtained
from the catalog of existing works and plans with this seeks to understand
the design process of each work to analyze and deduce how the architect
faced each case from its location, the program and formal relations, relating
to the rest of its architectural production. In parallel and principal, considering
the notion of the (re) construction of the project as an instrument for the
recognition of values and criteria, which, incidentally, should be named is the
methodological tool for the analysis of each work. In short, this research will try
to identify the relations and criteria of order of each work, and demonstrate
that Kohn was one of the pioneers of modern architecture in the country. |
| Description: | La investigación estudia la Arquitectura moderna en Ecuador en
el periodo comprendido desde 1940-1960, considerando al arquitecto Karl
Kohn como uno de los pioneros del movimiento moderno en el país desde su
llegada en 1939 producto de la migración de Republica Checa al Ecuador,
la investigación estudiara el valor de la obra de Karl Kohn en el país, mediante
cinco casos de estudios emblemáticos de su obra, que buscan sumergirse y
demostrar que era un pionero de la arquitectura moderna en el país.
Consecuentemente, en el afán de alcanzar dicho objetivo, el
estudio tiene como punto de partida el estudio de los archivos de la obra
completa del arquitecto, gracias al rescate de los planos y dibujos facilitados
por el archivo de la familia Kohn. Por lo que se efectuó la clasificación
cronológica de los documentos obtenidos del catálogo de obras y planos
existentes con esto se busca entender el proceso proyectual de cada
obra a analizar y deducir como el arquitecto afronto cada caso desde su
emplazamiento, el programa y las relaciones formales, relacionando con
el resto de su producción arquitectónica. De forma paralela y principal,
considerando la noción de la (re)construcción del proyecto como
instrumento de reconocimiento de valores y criterios, que, de paso, cabe
nombrar es la herramienta metodológica para el análisis de cada obra.
En fin, esta investigación intentará identificar las relaciones y criterios de
orden de cada obra, y demostrar que Kohn fue uno de los pioneros de la
arquitectura moderna en el país. |
