| Abstract: | The adulthood is a stage of changes where there are major limitations; due to this, they
need a caregiver for assistance in basic activities, who by their work are exposed to factors
that influence the quality of life; that is, in the perception of the individual by his position in
life according to the system of values, culture and in relation to his objectives and
expectations. Therefore, the general objective of the study was to describe the level of quality
of life of caregivers of elderly people living in geriatric centers of Cuenca and the specific
objectives: to identify the level of quality of life in caregivers of older adults according to
sociodemographic characteristics and determine the domain of quality of life that is most
affected in these people. The research was developed with a focus on quantitative research,
non-experimental design and descriptive scope. For the collection of data, a
sociodemographic record and the WHOQOL BREF scale were used to measure the quality of
life variable at a general level and in four domains: physical, psychological, social and
environmental to a population of 48 formal caregivers. The analysis was performed using
descriptive statistics with measures of central tendency. The results indicated that the
perception of quality of life at a general level and of well-being with their health is positive,
the domain least affected is the psychological, the most affected is the environment.
Regarding the identification of sociodemographic characteristics, it was found that young
adults who have a partner and support from someone, have a better psychological domain. It
is concluded that the secondary or formal caregivers present an adequate level of quality of
life, most were women who had the support of someone, and in terms of sociodemographic
characteristics is a relationship with several of them that intervene in the perception of
positive as negative form of the different domains. |
| Description: | La adultez mayor, es una etapa de cambios en donde existen mayores limitaciones; debido
a esto, necesitan de un cuidador para la asistencia en actividades básicas, quienes por su labor
están expuestos a factores que influyen en la calidad de vida; por ello, el objetivo general del
estudio fue describir el nivel de calidad de vida de los cuidadores de adultos mayores
residentes en centros geriátricos de Cuenca y los objetivos específicos fueron: identificar el
nivel de calidad de vida en los cuidadores de adultos mayores según las características
sociodemográficas y determinar el dominio de calidad de vida que está más afectado en estas
personas. La investigación se desarrolló con un enfoque de investigación cuantitativo, de
diseño no experimental y de alcance descriptivo. Para la recolección de datos se empleó una
ficha sociodemográfica y la escala WHOQOL-BREF que mide la variable calidad de vida a
nivel general y a través cuatro dominios: físico, psicológico, social y ambiental a una
población de 48 cuidadores formales. El análisis se realizó mediante estadística descriptiva
con medidas de tendencia central. Los resultados indicaron que la percepción de calidad de
vida a nivel general y de bienestar con su salud es positiva, el dominio menos afectado es el
psicológico, y el más afectado el ambiental. En cuanto a la identificación de las
características sociodemográficas, se encontró que los adultos jóvenes que tienen pareja y
apoyo de alguien, presentan un mejor dominio psicológico. Se concluye que los cuidadores
secundarios o formales presentan un nivel adecuado de calidad de vida, la mayoría eran
mujeres que contaban con el apoyo de alguien, y en cuanto a las características
sociodemográficas se encuentra una relación con varias de ellas que intervienen en la
percepción de forma positiva como negativa de los diferentes dominios. |
