Percepción de los hijos sobre roles familiares frente a la migración de sus padres

Abstract

In recent years, the migration phenomenon in Ecuador has increased considerably, which has caused many Ecuadorians to migrate to countries such as the United States, Spain and Italy looking for possibilities that favor the living conditions of their families, being the result the parental migration and therefore the modification of roles in the home. The objective of this research was to describe the perception that children have regarding the roles assumed in relation to the migration of their parents. The study had a qualitative approach with descriptive scope and transversal design. Sociodemographic files and semi-structured interviews were used, which were applied to 9 students of eighth, ninth and tenth grades of general basic education at the Daniel Muñoz School of the Biblián Canton, during the months of September 2018 to January 2019. The results of the research were contrasted with the theory and it was shown that the perception of migration is ambivalent in nature because they influence the emotional consequences because the roles that the children had before the parental migration were different, they had less responsibility and his activities were limited to tasks specifically of his age. Roles after migration are determined by activities whose responsibility is greater than they had before. At the same time, it is concluded that the migratory phenomenon more than represent a possibility of economic improvement for families can also represent a risk within the family since it modifies the roles in its members without considering whether they are apt or not to exercise them. It is recommended to promote research related to the theme considering a larger sample in order to show the different perceptions of the children of migrant parents in the province of Cañar.
