Abstract: | The objective of the present investigation was to determine the effects caused by rotating and fixed work shifts in workers' health, mainly in the quality of sleep and the degree of work fatigue and then propose measures according to the results obtained.
A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out, with a quantitative approach. This was done through pre-established questionnaires, such as the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index, which allowed us to evaluate sleep disturbances, while the Yoshitake Fatigue Questionnaire was applied to assess the degree of fatigue.
A total of 175 surveys were applied to the workers of the Rival Plastics Factory of the operative area under the modality of fixed and rotating shifts. It was found that there is a statistically significant relationship (P = 0.014) between sleep quality alterations in the fixed shifts and rotating shifts, evidencing a higher incidence in the rotating shifts, in relation to the workers' age It was found that there is a statistically significant relationship (P = 0.001) between the Sleep Quality Index in younger workers and the Sleep Quality Index of older workers. With respect to the degree of fatigue, we did not find a statistically significant relationship (P = 0.607) between the degree of fatigue with work shifts and neither between the degree of fatigue with respect to age (P = 0.139). |
