Prevalencia, factores asociados, y características del hipotiroidismo, en pacientes con diabetes mellitus tipo 2, en el Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso, en el periodo 2017

Abstract

BACKGROUND It has been proposed that the alteration in the metabolism of carbohydrates can produce thyroid hypofunction, there are associated factors and proper qualities of the biochemical profile in patients with both pathologies.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence, associated factors, and characteristics of hypothyroidism, in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, at the Vicente Corral Moscoso hospital, in the 2017 period

METHODOLOGY: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on the prevalence, associated factors and the description of the biochemical profile of hypothyroidism in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The study was carried out with a sample of 362 clinical histories of patients seen in the Endocrinology outpatient section. Data was recorded in a form prepared by the authors.

RESULTS: The prevalence of hypothyroidism was 49.0%, the lipid profile of diabetic and hypothyroid patients showed hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia compared to the values of euthyroid diabetics. The factors associated with the development of thyroid hypofunction in the diabetic patient were age, with a prevalence ratio of 1.72 (95%,IC 1,04 – 2,86), and the time of evolution of diabetes greater than 10 years with a prevalence ratio of 1.58 (95%, IC 1,28 – 1,95).

CONCLUSIONS: The study has determined the correlation of the age and the evolution time of diabetes as associated factors in the increase in the prevalence of hypothyroidism in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2. When presenting both pathologies individuals can develop dyslipidemia.
