Prevalencia y factores asociados a prolapso genital, en mujeres entre 35 – 60 años, Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga, Cuenca, 2017

Abstract

Background: Genital prolapse is the displacement of pelvic organs through the vaginal canal, is multifactorial and can affect the quality of life of women, in the physical, psychological and sexual aspect.

Objective: To determine the prevalence and factors associated with genital prolapse in women between 35 and 60 years old that attended the outpatient gynecology department of the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital during 2017.

Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted, 196 women entered by sequential allocation. The sample was calculated based on the prevalence of the lowest associated factor, with 95% confidence and 4% inference error. The data analysis was performed with the SPSS Software version 23 free of charge. Values of p <0.05 were considered significant, the association was established by the prevalence ratio.

Results: The median age was 46 years; the number of vaginal deliveries fluctuated between 0 and 8; 34.2% presented obesity. The prevalence of genital prolapse was 19.9% (95% CI 14.3 - 25.5) and was associated with multiparity (RP 1.9, 95% CI 1.11 - 3.51, p 0.025); menopause (RP 4.82, 95% CI 2.80 - 8.31, p 0.000) and history of hysterectomy (RP 3.63, 95% CI 2.12 - 6.21, p 0.000); grade II prolapse was the most frequent (10.7%), along with prolapse Ba (13.3%).

Conclusions: Genital prolapse is associated with multiparity, menopause, and history of hysterectomy
