Estudio de la percepción paisajística de los ciclistas al movilizarse por sus rutas en la ciudad de Cuenca - Ecuador

Abstract

This research was developed within the framework of the project Pies y Pedales: Study of the mobility patterns of cyclists and pedestrians for sustainable mobility” executed by LlactaLAB-Sustainable Cities and funded by the Research Department of the University of Cuenca DIUC. Studies of alternative mobility in general and bicycle mobility in particular have been generating a new body of knowledge for planning and design of cities that can change trends in the practice of these disciplines. In this context, this research focused on studying the utilitarian mobility in bicycle through the preferences, perceptions and points of view of a group of participants (men and women between 16 and 65 years, with different levels of experience and frequency of use of bicycle). The state of art evidenced few researches that have related the mobility in bicycle and the perception of the environment during this experience. Thus, the methodologies proposed (Method Q, Ethnographic Video and Semi- Structured Interview) allowed us to investigate this experience in a group of 30 participants, finding common and dissimilar points in their assessments. Among the most outstanding results it should be pointed out that the segregation of the road for bicycles and vegetation in its functional, scenic and environmental quality were topics that most influenced the participants. Based on this analysis, it was possible to elaborate reflections and design strategies for the implementation of cycling infrastructure in the different typologies of roads identified in the city of Cuenca.
