Abstract
The term "Water Footprint", makes reference to the total volume of freshwater required in the production of different goods and services that a human being, a society or a country consume. When is about calculating the water footprint is necessary to considerate the several components of it such as blue, green and gray water footprint, as well as regard the virtual water of each product. However, a general method to calculate the water footprint has not been established, it is be because of the different characteristics and factors that are unique in each region. The meaning of water footprint was introduced in order to manage in a better way the freshwater resource on earth.
Resumen
Huella hídrica es el volumen total de agua dulce necesaria para la producción de bienes y servicios consumidos por un individuo, país o grupo determinado; para el cálculo de la huella hídrica total se debe considerar el agua virtual de cada producto y los diferentes componentes de la huella hídrica como: huella hídrica azul, verde, gris, sin embargo no existe una formula general para el cálculo de la huella hídrica sino depende de varios factores propios de cada región; el concepto de huella hídrica se introdujo para una mejor gestión y utilización del agua dulce disponible en el planeta.
