Bacilos gram negativos productores de carbapenemasas en pacientes hospitalizados en el Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga. Cuenca. 2016

Abstract

Background: Infections due to multidrug resistance germs, like gram negative bacilli carbapenemases producers are a healthcare problem. In Ecuador, the first case of this type of resistance was reported in 2010. From that moment on more cases were isolated in different hospitals around the country. Objective: Determine the characteristics of gram negative bacilli carbapenemases producers in hospitalized patients in the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital. Cuenca. 2016. Methodology: Retrospect descriptive study with 51 patients with infections due to gram negative bacilli carbapenemases producers were hospitalized in the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital in 2016. The data was collected with digital formulary in Microsoft Excel 2010, processed with SPSS v19.0 and presented through descriptive statistics, as well as relative frequencies, average calculation, standard deviation, and interval estimation. Results: From 51 cases of patients, the 58.82% were male; 47.06% of them ≥65 years. The elementary occupations represented 74.51% of cases. 94.11% were exposed to antibiotics before the detection, and 88.22% of them were betalactamics. The 92.15% of infections were by Klebsiella pneumoniae, 54.90% of patients entered the hospital to a clinical area and the majority ending up in ICU being 64.70% the report of cases. 52.94% of bacteria were detected through culture of secretions. Every patient had a prolonged stay with an average of 52 days and with a mortality rate of 52.94%. Conclusions: Klebsiella Pneumoniae was the most frequent bacteria being isolated in ICU, the majority of the cases presented antibiotic exposure before the detection with a mortality of 52.94%
