Percepción familiar sobre el inicio de las relaciones sexuales de los adolescentes, Santa Isabel, 2017

Abstract

Background: for the WHO, the stage of adolescence is between 10 and 19 years, and is characterized by a series of physical, psychological, biological changes. But biological children one of the most important challenges that the adolescent must face, within this is related to the practice of sexuality and the risk that is connected to their reproductive health. So the role of the family in this stage is important, mainly with sex education, however, has seen that it is not fulfilling this role, and makes this subject remains a pending issue.

General Objective: to determine the family perception about the onset of adolescent sexual relations, Santa Isabel, 2017.

Methodology: a descriptive quantitative cross-sectional study was carried out, with a sample of 278 representatives from the Santa Isabel Technical College. The technique used in the survey model, the same that has been validated by Ramírez et al., in his work entitled "Parents' activities on sexuality in their children, values and preventive measures of AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome)." Results: 60% of parents present a low level of communication about sexuality with their children. 59% of parents do not feel qualified to provide sex education, 97% of representatives consider that the educational unit is the one who should strengthen sexuality education in adolescents, and regarding the initiation of sexual relations in adolescents, 65.8% of parents consider that the appropriate age is 19 and above. Conclusions the perception of the family at the beginning of sexual relations at an early age of adolescents is based on traditional behaviors with reproductive vision of sexuality, which indicate not to agree with certain attitudes of adolescents regarding sexuality issues
