Abstract: | BACKGROUND: The regular practice of physical exercise is one of the activities recommended to maintain a good state of health since it reduces the risk to suffer diseases; although renal dysfunction in athletes is considered a rare event, it’s important to monitor it through biochemical tests of urea, creatinine and uric acid.
GENERAL OBJECTIVE: Determine the renal profile in athletes of the Sports Federation of Azuay. Cuenca-2017.
METHODOLOGY: Descriptive cross-sectional study in athletes 14-18 years of the Sports Federation of Azuay from a finite universe of 1094 athletes with a sample of 220. The methodology of the study included the application of the form for data collection, signing of consent and informed consent, blood sample collection to participants, serum quantification Urea, creatinine and uric acid to each sample and tabulation of data in SPSS v22 and Microsoft Excel 2016.
RESULTS: Results indicate that 98.1% of sportsmen presented normal urea levels, 1.4% showed urea decreased and only 0.5% exceeded the reference range. In relation to creatinine, 95% showed normal values, 4.1% high and 0.9% low. As for uric acid, 87.7% concentrated concentrations, 11.8% exceeded the reference value and 0.5% showed low values.
CONCLUSIONS: When quantifying levels of urea, creatinine and uric acid, normal ranges predominate, presenting slight serum variations that may be caused by factors that are not necessarily related to sport or renal functioning |
