| Abstract: | BACKGROUND: Onychomycosis, an infection caused by fungi that affects fingernails and toenails, which is common in the elderly and infrequent in children, accounts for 30% to 50% of superficial mycotic infections (1).
OBJECTIVE: To determine the frequency of onychomycosis according to KOH and culture in adults aged 45-80 who attended the health centers of the parishes of Gualaceo, 2017.
METHODOLOGY: The study was descriptive, cross-sectional, with a universe of 2,174 inhabitants aged 45-80 who attended the health centers of the parishes of Gualaceo; the sample was of 207 randomly selected adults. The sample was taken by scraping with a scalpel and processed in the Diagnostic Center of the Faculty of Medical Sciences.
USE OF RESULTS: Onychomycosis frequency was 31.5%, the most frequent age was between 60-64 years (25.5%) in toenails and over 70 years (35.7%) in nails of hands, with predominance of women (56.0%). In the KOH test of the nails of the hands, 1% (2) was positive and 6,9% (14) positive culture and the most frequent agents were dermatophytes (42.9%), Aspergillus flavus (21.4% ) and Aspergillus Niger and yeasts (14.3%); KOH obtained 11.1% (23) and culture 24.6% (51) of positive samples, the most frequent agents were: Trichophyton rubrum (58.8%), Trichophyton mentagrophytes (19 , 6%) and Trichophyton tonsurans (11.8%) |
| Description: | ANTECEDENTES: La Onicomicosis, es una infección producida por hongos que afecta a las uñas de las manos y de los pies, frecuente en personas mayores y poco frecuente en niños, constituye el 30 y 50% de las infecciones micóticas superficiales(1).
OBJETIVO: Determinar la frecuencia de onicomicosis según KOH y cultivo en adultos de 45-80 años que asistieron a los centros de salud de las parroquias de Gualaceo, 2017.
METODOLOGÍA: El estudio fue de tipo descriptivo, de corte transversal, se trabajó con un universo de 2.174 habitantes de 45-80 años que asistieron a los centros de salud de las parroquias de Gualaceo; la muestra fue de 207 adultos elegidos aleatoriamente. La toma de muestra fue por raspado con bisturí y procesadas en el Centro de Diagnóstico de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas.
USO DE RESULTADOS: Se obtuvo una frecuencia de Onicomicosis de 31,5%, la edad más frecuente fue entre 60-64 años (25,5%) en uñas de pies y mayores a 70 años (35,7%) en uñas de manos, con predominio de mujeres (56,0%). En el exámen KOH de uñas de las manos el 1% (2) fue positivo y el 6,9% (14) cultivo positivo y los agentes más frecuentes fueron: dermatofitos (42,9%), Aspergillus flavus (21,4%) y Aspergillus Niger y levaduras (14,3%); en las uñas de pies el KOH obtuvo el 11,1% (23) y el cultivo el 24,6% (51) de muestras positivas, los agentes más frecuentes fueron: Trichophyton rubrum (58,8%), Trichophyton mentagrophytes (19,6%) y Trichophyton tonsurans (11,8%) |
