Plan de manejo ambiental para la mitigación de los impactos generados por la presencia del perico caretirrojo (psittacara erythrogenys) dentro del ecosistema urbano del cantón Cuenca

Abstract

The following investigation focused on studying the presence of the red-masked parakeet and its possible impact to the city of Cuenca. In order to determine this, two mathematical models (Maxent and GARP) were applied to predict the possible area of distribution of the parakeet in the city. The area was monitored to determine the habitat characteristics and relative abundance. To identify and assess the impacts, a risk analysis of invasive species questionnaire was used, which gave a general vision of the species in the city. Throughout the study the maximum number of individuals found was seventeen, with the regular population being eight individuals. The selected area of distribution was generated by the Maxent model, this represents 22.8% of the total area of study, situated in the middle strip of the city, and no propagation tendencies were shown. These results were important for risk assessment, in which, it was determined that the species represents a low risk. Due to the categorization of the red-masked parakeet, in the management plan, the possibility of the species becoming invasive was not discarded, and strategies that focus on prevention and/or timely detection of negative impacts, through tracking of the species, were proposed.
