| Abstract: | BACKGROUND: Hearing loss is a common problem in elderly people, causes social isolation, depression and other changes that alter the quality of life.
GENERAL OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of hearing loss and related factors in patients of 30 and 90 that go to Centro de Audiologia Salud Auditiva in the city of Cuenca during October to December 2016.
METHODOLOGY: An observational, descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out with a sample of 149 patients. A survey was obtained: sociodemographic data, comorbidities and hearing pathologies history was found. SPSS program was used to analyze for determination of the relationship among the variables identified by the Chi Square (χ2) with 95% confidence interval and the statistically significant results (p values <= 0.05) .
RESULTS: Hearing problems occurred between 70 and 79 years (21.5%), female patients (61.1%), in patients whose occupation was household chores (36.2%), and in patients with primary education (41%). The most reported hearing loss was a moderate loss for both the left ear (40.3%) and the right ear (35.6%). As family history was manifested in 22% of the cases. Tinnitus was presented in 32.2% in history personal. The most frequent consultation was not listening (72.5%). Hearing loss showed a statistically significant association with: age p=0.00 for both ears, occupation p=0.007 for the right ear and p= 0.016 for the left ear, and level of education p=0.016 for the right ear and a p=0.001 for the left ear |
| Description: | ANTECEDENTES: La pérdida auditiva es un problema frecuente en la población adulta, provocando aislamiento social, depresión y otros cambios que alteran la calidad de vida.
OBJETIVO GENERAL: Determinar la prevalencia de pérdida auditiva y los factores asociados en pacientes de 30 a 90 años de edad que acuden al Centro de Audiología Salud Auditiva de la ciudad de Cuenca, mayo - octubre 2016.
METODOLOGÍA: Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo de corte transversal, con una muestra de 149 pacientes. Mediante una encuesta se obtuvo: datos sociodemográficos, comorbilidades y antecedentes de patología auditiva. Se analizó mediante el programa SPSS, permitiendo determinar la asociación entre las variables identificadas mediante la prueba Chi-cuadrado con intervalo de confianza del 95%; y resultados estadísticamente significativos a valores de p<=0,05.
RESULTADOS: Los problemas de audición predominaron en edades de 70 a 79 años (21,5%), género femenino (61,1%), ocupación quehaceres domésticos (36,2%), e instrucción primaria (41%). El grado más representativo fue el moderado para el oído izquierdo (40,3%) y oído para el derecho (35,6%). Como antecedente familiar se manifestó en el 22% de los casos. Los acúfenos se presentaron en el 32,2% de los casos como antecedente personal. El no escuchar fue el motivo de consulta más frecuente (72,5%). La pérdida de la audición presentó asociación estadísticamente significativa con: la edad p =0,00; ocupación oído derecho p= 0,007 y oído derecho p=0.016; según nivel de instrucción oído derecho p= 0,016 y oído izquierdo p= 0,001 |
