The present investigation was carried out through a bibliographical investigation and the objective was to determine how the family dysfunction affects the academic performance of the children.
The family plays a key role in the development of its members as it meets both biological, psychological, social and economic needs. For this, its structure is fundamental and its organization that includes hierarchies and rules of interaction between the family and relations with the outside are essential because they regulate the functions of its members and the family system.
Family functionality depends on the ability of each member to resolve conflicts for which communication; negotiation and the ability to adapt to stress are necessary. In addition the family structure must be asymmetric and the functionality of the system requires that it be so, the indicators of functionality and dysfunctionality go through the ability to solve problems and make the necessary adjustments.
Families can place children at risk in their academic performance because they do not provide control, clear messages and do not favor the emotional balance that stimulate the interest to be better and overcome day by day.
The determined participation of the parents is fundamental since they will stimulate their interest in the permanent education, avoiding to diminish the low performance and the scholastic failure. And from the practical study of cases.

La presente investigación se realizó a través de una indagación bibliográfica y el objetivo fue determinar como la disfuncionalidad familiar afecta el rendimiento académico de los hijos.
La familia cumple un papel primordial en el desarrollo de sus miembros ya que suple las necesidades tanto biológicas, psicológicas, sociales y económicas. Para ello su estructura es fundamental y su organización que incluye jerarquías y reglas de interacción entre la familia y las relaciones con el exterior son imprescindibles porque regulan las funciones de sus miembros y del sistema familiar.
La funcionalidad familiar depende de la capacidad de cada uno de los miembros en la resolución de conflictos para lo cual se hace necesario la comunicación, negociación y la capacidad de adaptarse al estrés. Además la estructura familiar debe ser asimétrica y la funcionalidad del sistema requiere que así lo sea, los indicadores de funcionalidad y disfuncionalidad pasan por la capacidad de resolver los problemas y realizar los ajustes necesarios.
Las familias pueden colocar a los niños en situaciones de riesgo en su rendimiento académico a causa de la disfuncionalidad porque no aportan control, mensajes claros y no favorecen al equilibrio emocional que estimulan el interés por verse mejores y superarse día a día.
La participación decidida de los padres es fundamental ya que estimularán su interés por la educación permanente, evitando disminuir el bajo rendimiento y el fracaso escolar. Y desde la práctica estudio de casos.
