Percepciones y temores en estudiantes de Enfermería hacia pacientes con VIH-SIDA. Cuenca, 2016

Abstract

Background: HIV-AIDS is a public health problem that has affected thousands of people in our country. Furthermore, it is a disease that has high levels of discrimination. The discrimination suffered by HIV-positive people, not only given by the society, but also of certain nurses, that despite the information and instruction they have about the same, they still have fears or denials when they serve them . Objective: To determine the perceptions and fears among nursing students towards patients with HIV-AIDS. Materials and Methods: A study with a qualitative approach was made: grounded theory, through depth interviews with nursing students in recent years at the University of Cuenca. We worked with a semi-structured interview that served as a guide during interviews. The information is recorded and then to be transcribed into a word processor, Word and analyzed using ATLAS.ti version 5.0, the same as used appointments, codes and memos. Results: Students' fear of attending to a patient with HIV / AIDS is mainly based on a lack of skills in practice, not knowing how to act, lack of information, being an incurable disease, and negative experiences Have lived other partners, in which their health has been compromised. Of the 6 students who were interviewed, one of them shows discriminatory ideas and behaviors, despite knowing about the disease and saying that it does not discriminate against them. Because during the interview he mentioned that he would move away from people who have HIV-AIDS and contradicted himself in what he said about discrimination
