Representaciones sociales de la maternidad y paternidad en las familias transnacionales de la parroquia Chiquintad en el segundo trimestre del año 2016

Abstract

The current research analyze the Social Representations of maternity and paternity in transnational families. During the development of this research, a review of the bibliography has been applied to contextualize the way in which social representations about maternity and paternity have been originated. Then, through a qualitative methodology based on the collection of testimony through interviews, we can identify the social representation that is in force in the parish of Chiquintad, characterized by its high migratory rates. In order to graph the different family structures that have been formed after the migration, genograms are used. After analyzing the information, it is evident that the parish is under the social representation of a nuclear family model, which is based on the paradigm of patriarchy and the Catholic religion. This does not cover the totality of the reality that is under it, reason why it generates exclusion to the fathers and mothers of the transnational families, who due to the physical distance cannot fulfill the functions as it imposes said social representation. The different forms of performing the roles at a distance are not recognized and the social representation of maternity and transnational parenthood is fraught with stereotypes that further hinder the exercise of functions mediated by distance.
