Estado periodontal en dientes con prótesis fija y dientes sin prótesis fija de pacientes atendidos en la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Cuenca

Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare the periodontal state of teeth with fixed prosthesis and its contralateral healthy homologue of patients who were attended at the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Cuenca during the years 2014-2015 and met the inclusion criteria. Materials and methods: A comparative cross-sectional study (divided mouth) was carried out in which 72 dental pieces with fixed prosthesis and their contralateral healthy homologue were evaluated by means of a clinical examination where the following clinical parameters were taken into account: probing depth, Clinical insertion level, Bleeding on probing And plaque index, performed in a total of 60 patients. Results: Of the 60 patients examined, the 72% were women, the 74.6% of teeth evaluated were posterior teeth. Significant differences were found between the clinical parameters examined a probing depth of 2.10 mm in the teeth with fixed prosthesis and 1.68 mm in the contralateral teeth. Loss of clinical insertion of 0.85 mm for teeth with fixed prosthesis and 0.35 mm for contralateral teeth, bleeding on probing was present in 80.6% in the fixed prosthesis group and 44.4% in the group without fixed prosthesis. Regarding to index plaque, a plaque level of 1.01 was found in the pieces with fixed prosthesis and 0.73 in the healthy contralateral teeth. Conclusion: A relationship between the periodontal condition and the presence of fixed prosthesis was found, which is expressed in the increase of values of the clinical parameters in pieces with fixed prosthesis compared to the control tooth
