Abstract:
Background: testicular cancer is one of the testicular pathologies that mainly affects men aged between 15 and 35 years. (1) Testicular self-examination is the initial step in the detection of cancer. This involves performing a thorough examination of the testis and scrotum using techniques such as observation and palpation to detect abnormalities in the testicles. (2)
Objective: to identify the knowledge, attitudes and practices about testicular self - examination in students Nursing Career - University of Cuenca, 2016.
Materials and methods: this research is descriptive observational with a cross-sectional design. A survey was conducted based on the study "Public Awareness on Testicular Cancer and Testicular Self-Examination in Academic Settings: A Lost Opportunity." The results were analyzed with SPSS Version 15.0 and represented in graphs.
Results: the prevalent age group was between 21 and 23 years old with 54.9%, third cycle (35.2%). Almost all of the participants were single (93.4%), while in the urban area (83.5%). 85.7% correctly answered that the testicular self-examination should be done by all men periodically. 86.8% are aware that self-examination helps detect benign and malignant diseases and that they should go to the doctor when they find something abnormal (96.7%). On the other hand, of the total of the participants of this study only 11% has been done testicular self-examination.
Conclusions: the men who participated in our study have a regular knowledge, a demeaning attitude and practice towards the testicular self-examination

Antecedentes: el cáncer de testículo es una de las patologías testiculares que afecta principalmente a los hombres de edad entre los 15 y 35 años. (1) El autoexamen testicular es el paso inicial para la detección del cáncer, esto consiste en realizarse una exploración exhaustiva del testículo y escroto mediante técnicas como la observación y palpación a fin de detectar anomalías en los testículos. (2)
Objetivo: identificar los conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas sobre autoexamen testicular en estudiantes Carrera de Enfermería – Universidad de Cuenca, 2016.
Materiales y métodos: esta investigación es de tipo descriptivo observacional con un diseño de corte transversal. Se aplicó una encuesta basada en el estudio titulado “La conciencia pública sobre el cáncer testicular y el autoexamen testicular en entornos académicos: una oportunidad perdida”. Los resultados fueron analizados con el programa SPSS Versión 15.0 y representados en gráficos.
Resultados: el grupo de edad prevalente fue de: entre 21 y 23 años de edad con el 54,9%, de tercer ciclo (35,2%). Casi la totalidad de los participantes eran solteros (93, 4%).En el área urbana residen el (83,5%). El 85,7% contesto correctamente que el autoexamen testicular se lo deben realizar todos los hombres periódicamente. El 86,8% están conscientes que el autoexamen ayuda a detectar enfermedades benignas y malignas y que deben acudir al médico cuando encuentren algo anormal (96,7 %). Por otra parte, del total de los participantes de este estudio solo el 11 % se ha realizado el autoexamen testicular.
Conclusiones: los hombres que participaron en nuestro estudio poseen un conocimiento regular, una actitud y practica lamentable hacia el autoexamen testicular
