| Abstract: | Background: Mental disorders represent a public health problem for a major cause of illness, disability and death. To this reality is added an increasing percentage of family dysfunction that is affected by the economic crisis and the growing unemployment. These alterations are manifested mainly in the emotional and psychic spheres, which are especially accentuated when those affected are in the stage of puberty or adolescence which, as is the general knowledge, is a phase of changes in all elements in the individual.
Objective: Evaluate the mental health of the students at the freshman year of the Technical Salesian High School and family dysfunction, Cuenca, Ecuador, 2016
Materials and methods: A descriptive observational study was carried out on 414 students from the freshman year of the Technical Salesian High School to determine the frequency of mental disorders and family dysfunction based on the survey technique applying the SRQ test and family dysfunction questionnaire in which were included variables such as: age, gender, origin, marital status of the parents, family functionality, depression, anxiety, psychosis, alcoholism, and epilepsy, in which, frequencies and percentages were applied. The results were analyzed, processed and represented in tables and statistical graphs using the SPSS program version 15.
Results: The most frequent altered mental state where the psychotic symptoms which was presented in greater percentage with 94%. In regard to sex, women presented more frequently: psychotic symptoms with 97.4%, anxiety with 29.87% and depression with 25.97%. In men, psychotic symptoms were identified with 93.18%, alcohol-related problems with 21.66%, and anxiety with 16.02%. The most frequent age for these disorders was 15 years. In students identified with anxiety and depression, the highest percentage corresponds to families with moderate dysfunction, in students identified with psychotic symptoms, epilepsy or problems with alcohol consumption, the functional family predominated |
| Description: | Antecedentes: Los trastornos mentales representan un problema de salud pública por ser una importante causa de enfermedad, discapacidad y muerte. A esta realidad se suma un porcentaje creciente de disfuncionalidad familiar que se ve afectado por la crisis económica y el desempleo. Estas alteraciones se manifiestan principalmente en las esferas emocional y psíquica, que se acentúan especialmente cuando los afectados se encuentran en la etapa de la pubertad o adolescencia que, como es de conocimiento general, es una fase de cambios en todos los aspectos en el individuo.
Objetivo: Evaluar la salud mental de los alumnos de primero de bachillerato de la Unidad Educativa Técnico Salesiano y disfuncionalidad familiar, Cuenca, Ecuador, 2016.
Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional y descriptivo a 414 estudiantes de primero de bachillerato para identificar la frecuencia de alteraciones del estado mental y disfuncionalidad familiar, utilizando como instrumentos el Test SRQ y el test de disfunción familiar (APGAR) que incluyeron variables sobre: edad, sexo, procedencia, estado civil de los padres de familia, funcionalidad familiar, depresión, ansiedad, psicosis, alcoholismo, y epilepsia, en las que se aplicó el uso de frecuencias y porcentajes. Los resultados obtenidos fueron analizados, procesados y representados en tablas y gráficos estadísticos mediante el uso del programa SPSS versión 15.
Resultados: los síntomas psicóticos fueron la alteración del estado mental que se presentó en mayor porcentaje con 94%. Con relación al sexo, en mujeres, se presentaron con mayor frecuencia: síntomas psicóticos con 97,4%, ansiedad con 29,87% y depresión con 25.97%. En hombres se identificaron síntomas psicóticos con 93,18%, problemas relacionados con el alcohol con 21,66%, y ansiedad con 16,02%. La edad de mayor frecuencia para estos trastornos fue de 15 años. En cuanto a disfunción familiar, en estudiantes identificados con ansiedad y depresión, el mayor porcentaje corresponde a familias con moderada disfunción, en aquellos con síntomas psicóticos, epilepsia o problemas con el consumo de alcohol, predominó la familia funcional |
