Abstract: | BACKGROUND: The lack of information about the dependence of the boys and girls with and without disabilities in the Centre for the Infantile Development of the University of Cuenca (Centro de Desarrollo Infantil de la Universidad de Cuenca “C.E.D.I.U.C.”).
OBJECTIVE: To determine the degree of dependence of the boys and girls from the Centre for the Infantile Development of the University of Cuenca.
METHODOLOGY: Quantitave study, descriptive observation. The sample of the study are all of the kids from C.E.D.I.U.C. (N=149). The sample corresponds with the world. The tools used were forms: the Scale for the Specific Assesment (la Escala de Valoración Específica E.V.E.) (0 to 3 years of age) and the Scale for the Dependence Assessment (el Baremo de Valoración de Dependencia B.V.D.) (3 and more years of age).
For the analysis and the tabulation of the data, the following programs have been used: SPSS version 15 Spanish, Microsoft Excel 2013 and Microsoft Word 2013. As statistical magnitudes frequency and percentage have been used. The results were presented in simple and double entry tables.
RESULTS: From the 74 boys/girl with and without disability, 24,3% showed moderate dependence (Degree I), 14,9% severe dependence (Degree 2), 6,8% large dependence (Degree 3), and 54,1% no dependence.
CONCLUSIONS: We have found that among the investigated sample that dependece exists, and it is statistically significantly associatied with the variables of disability and delay in development |
