Abstract:
This research was built between April 2016 and February 2017 in the city of Cuenca, and the main purpose was to explore from a gender approach the insights from senior United States citizens who have migrated to Ecuador and their points of view about the local society and the local people and how are they different to them, these as facts that influence in their integration process.
This study’s aim is to contribute to reduce the lack of knowledge in this society about the connotations of the migratory phenomena of retired United States citizens in Cuenca, which started on 2009 and became particularly prominent in 2012. With this intention, the research has a framework and concepts regarding migration and immigration, a historical overview about the immigration process North-South in Latin America, Ecuador and Cuenca. In the end an analysis of experiences and conceptions from the United States citizens based on their own experiences.
Besides that, the study presents the analysis of this social phenomena with a new perspective and thoughts with the gender approach contribution to this topic.
Resumen :
El presente trabajo de investigación, fue realizado entre abril de 2016 y febrero de 2017, en la ciudad de Cuenca, y tuvo por objetivo, explorar desde un enfoque de género, las percepciones de los y las migrantes estadounidenses de la tercera edad sobre la sociedad local y la construcción del otro/a, como factores que influyen en sus procesos de integración.
Esta investigación busca contribuir a aminorar el escaso conocimiento que existe en la sociedad local, sobre las connotaciones del fenómeno migratorio de estadounidenses jubilados a Cuenca, hecho que empezó a partir del año 2009 y tuvo su mayor auge en el 2012. Con esta finalidad, la investigación contiene un marco de teorías y conceptos sobre el tema de la migración/inmigración, un recorrido histórico del proceso de inmigración norte-sur en América Latina, Ecuador y Cuenca y finalmente, un análisis de las experiencias y percepciones de los y las migrantes estadounidenses, contadas desde sus propias voces. El estudio presenta además, un análisis de este fenómeno social, desde la riqueza y nuevas reflexiones que la perspectiva de género brinda al tema.
