Sistema Abo y subgrupos A1 en pacientes del banco de sangre del Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso Cuenca-2016

Abstract

This investigation was conducted in the blood bank of Vincent Corral Moscoso Hospital (HVCM) in the city of Cuenca with the objective of determining the ABO system and analyzing weak subgroups. Uncertainty as to patient blood groups can result in blood group incompatibility, hemolysis, immune system responses and even death in the event of erroneous blood group transfusions.

A descriptive investigation was conducted in which the population studies was an average of 49, 125 individuals who visited HVCM’s blood bank during one year. By our calculations our sample size consisted of 382 patients that visited the blood bank that year. The study was conducted by taking capillary blood sample and using these to determine blood group and sub-group. The patients signed a consent form that explained the process behind the investigation, explained the benefits of the study, and allowed them to provide socio-demographic characteristics associated with the variables to be analyzed.

The data collected demonstrated the frequency of blood groups and subgroups in order to prevent post-transfusion consequences. The results were as follows: 53.8% of all participants in the study were male, of these 76% carried blood group “O,” 19.1% carried blood group “A,” 4.7% carried blood group “B,” and 3% carried blood group “AB.” In regards to the Rh factor: the 97.9% carried a positive Rh factor. The majority of A1 subgroups were observed in blood group A positive. Of these 89.2% were subgroup A1 Positive and 10.8% were subgroup A1 negative
