Rediseño de la intersección Max Uhle y Paseo de los Cañaris para mejorar su nivel de servicio

Abstract

The increase of vehicle fleet in Cuenca s not related with the capacity that the main lane actually represents, this ends causing snarl-ups in many sectors of the city. This problem can be observed in a better way focusing on the intersections, specific area where two or more tracks converge, making possible changing course so destination can be reached. Rightfully solution to this inconvenient will depend on proper transit study and its geometric design. Imprudence and human-bad behaviorism by drivers and pedestrians will be bear on mind. The present project exposes alternatives of solution to transit problems occurring over Max Uhle and Paseo de los Cañaris intersection, by means of investigation about HCM 2010 (Highway Capacity Manual) analysis methodologists and the MTOP 2003 (Ministerio de Transporte y Obras Públicas) specific standards. As part of the study the traffic will be projected to be able to test the efficiency in the time of the alternative proposals, guaranteeing the function of 20 years of operation, as specified by the norms of NEVI for projects of rehabilitation and repairs. The analysis includes all types of ground-level intersections: with right of way signs, traffic signals and roundabouts, and elevated or below-ground intersections. According to MTOP, the type of intersection to choose must be based upon the traffic conditions for the primary and secondary ways, giving as a result of this analysis the below-ground intersection, where the roundabout with the below-ground pass completes the desired expectations for the capacity and level of service of the intersection in 20 years, able to improve with the taken measures of transit management such as restricting the passing of heavy vehicles.
