| Abstract: | A good oral hygiene is key for complete general health and play an important roll in improvement for a better quality of life. College students are an important group, therefore the impact in future generations and their lifestyles depends on their conduct.
It was demonstrated that the level of knowledge, attitudes and practice of oral health of the students of Technical Science, 2016 of the University of Cuenca with the Hiroshima Universal dental behavior inventory Index (HU-DBI). The evaluated careers were Architecture, civil engineering, electronic, electric and systems. We obtained as a result of HU-DBI index an average of 6.6, which showed us that the knowledge of dental hygiene of the students was regular. We found that the students of Architecture take better care of their dental hygiene, they got an average of 6.74 being the highest number of the test, on the other side the students of systems engineering obtained an average of 6.44, being the lowest number of all the careers evaluated. What was found reflected the difference of the formation, the experience and education of the students, related to dental hygiene of different careers.
Objectives: To know and analyze the HU-DBI index in the area of Technical science, period 2016 of the university of Cuenca.
Materials and Methods: We made a descriptive study. The results are analyzed, with the data obtained from interviews applying the HU-DBI index. The information acquired is tabulated and analyzed with SPSS version 15 |
| Description: | La buena higiene oral es clave para una buena salud general y es fundamental en la mejora de la calidad de vida. Los estudiantes universitarios son un grupo de gran importancia, debido a que el impacto que se pueda tener sobre sus conductas va a intervenir en el desarrollo de estilos de vida que influirán en generaciones posteriores.
Se demostró el nivel de conocimientos actitudes y prácticas de salud oral en los estudiantes del área de Ciencias Técnicas, 2016 de la Universidad de Cuenca con el Índice Hiroshima University Dental Behavior Inventory (HU-DBI). Las carreras evaluadas fueron Arquitectura, Ingeniería Civil, Electrónica, Eléctrica y Sistemas. Se obtuvo como resultado del índice HU-DBI una media de 6.6, lo cual indicó que el conocimiento de salud oral de los estudiantes fue regular. Se encontró que los estudiantes de Arquitectura se preocupan más sobre su higiene oral, al obtener una media de 6.74 siendo el mayor puntaje del test, mientras que los estudiantes de Sistemas obtuvieron una media de 6.44, siendo el valor más bajo de todas las carreras evaluadas. Se encontraron diferencias en la formación, experiencia y educación de los estudiantes, en cuanto a la salud oral entre las diferentes carreras.
