Prevalencia del uso inadecuado de inhibidores de la bomba de protones en pacientes adultos mayores del dispensario Central del Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social durante el año 2014, Cuenca-Ecuador

Abstract

Introduction: Indications of proton-pump inhibitor are: gastroesophageal reflux disease, acute gastrointestinal bleeding, active ulcers, erosive esophagitis, gastropathy NSAID ulcer prophylaxis, and eradication of H. Pylori. Objective: To determine the prevalence of inappropriate use of PPIs in elderly patients who attended the Central Dispensary IESS in Cuenca-Ecuador during 2014. Material and Methods: A quantitative, observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study. The universe was made up 116.235 medical records of patients older than 65 years treated at outpatient in the Central Dispensary the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security in 2014; a sample of 379 was obtained, and worked with 387 individuals for a percentage loss of 2%. age, sex, education, marital status, use of proton-pump inhibitor and consumer reason: variables are included. SPSS v15 software was used in the analysis and descriptive statistics were used. Results are shown in tables. Results: Of the 387 medical records studied, 36.18% correspond to older adults who consume IBP, women being those that use more (60.7%) and the age group most often is that of 75-84 years ( 44.3%). Improper use of PPIs is recorded in a 60.71% of the population and 39.29% with appropriate indications. Conclusions: The results are consistent with published studies, with a high frequency of misuse of IBP, being recommended a more rational use
