Abstract: | Goals: Determine the prevalence and factors associated pneumonia in patients 1-5 years old admitted to the Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso January- December 2014.
Methods and materials: A descriptive study was conducted in the Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso Pediatrics Department that included 472 hospitalized children aged 1-5 years, data were collected using the survey and review of the clinical history and tabulated in SPSS 20.0 program. Risk factor and the diagnosis of pneumonia were dichotomized; for the analysis we used frequencies and percentages and made the risk assessment with prevalence ratio.
Results: Four hundred and seventy two patients were enrolled and 141 of them (29.9%) had pneumonia and its occurrence was related to the ineffective breastfeeding RP 2.04 (1.50-2.67), underweight RP 1.62 (1.23-2.13) and inadequate maternal schooling RP 1.75 (1.32-2.31). No static significance was found with the age (P 0.33), preterm birth (P0.12) and a history of smoking parents P0.028.
Conclusions: The prevalence of Pneumonia was 29.9% and is directly associated with inadequate breastfeeding, ineffective maternal education and malnutrition, same where it should intervene continuous and timely manner as they are factors that could be change |
