Prevalencia de infección del tracto urinario y factores asociados en pacientes mujeres que acuden al servicio de emergencia de clínica y cirugía del Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso, Cuenca 2015

Abstract

Objective: To determine the prevalence and factors associated with urinary tract infection in women attending the Emergency Department of Clinic and Surgery of Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital. Methodology: Cross-sectional study in 700 women attending in Department of Clinic and Surgery Emergency; the prevalence of UTI and its association with demographic and clinical factors were assessed, data were collected on a form upon fulfillment of the criteria for inclusion and exclusion and acceptance of the patient's informed consent, data analysis was performed on the SPSS with simple tables and to analyze the association the Odds Ratio (OR) with 95% confidence level (p-value). Results: The prevalence of UTI was 32%, and risk factors: use of urinary catheters 6.9%; urolithiasis 4.6%; hospitalizations 21.3%; renal failure 1.6%; 2 or more UTIs in the past year 5.3%; sexually active life 66.6%, 18.3% use IUDs; hypertension 26.7% and diabetes 13.39%. Factors associated with UTI: age <= 25 years OR 1.9 (95% CI 1.1 to 3.2), p = 0.007; the use of urinary catheters OR 2.9 (95% CI 1.6 to 5.3), p = 0.00; urolithiasis OR 2.8 (95% CI 1.4 to 5.9), p = 0.002; previous hospitalizations OR 2.7 (95% CI 1.8 to 3.9), p = 0.00 and diabetes OR 1.9 (95% CI 1.2 to 3.01), p = 0.002. Conclusions: UTI frequency is high in Emergency Department of Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, 1 in 3 women are consulting patients by this disease, with risk factors mostly uncontrollable.
