Impacto educacional para mejorar conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas en bioseguridad en emergencia del Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso y del Hospital Homero Castanier. Cuenca 2015.

Abstract

General purpose. To determine the impact of the implementation of an educational program aimed at improving knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAPs) from the staff that provides medical care in the services of trauma and emergency of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital and Homero Castanier Crespo Hospital, 2015.

Methodology. It was an quasi-experimental study. The universe consisted of 98 participants including staff that provides medical care in the institutions involved. Based on this population we get a non-probabilistic of convenience sample; the sample of 76 participants was proportionately divided into 2 groups: the experimental group and the control group. As a first point, KAPs were evaluated in the two groups of participants, with a previously validated Test. Then the educational programs were executed simultaneously: in the intervention group by simulation and in the group of control by providing informative leaflets. Finally, the impact of each program was evaluated with the same previous Test. The collected information was analyzed and processed by the software Epi Info 351, SPS S version 19, Excel 2013 and Minitab 16.

Results. The participants were mostly female (51.3%), range of age was 28.6 years (SD: 1.760). 64.5% of participants were single. In the intervention group, Knowledge improved 13.2% (P: 0.026), and 50% for the practices (P minor than a: 0.05). About the attitudes, there was not statistically significant difference.

Conclusions. The simulation-based method is effective at improving knowledge and practices in biosafety in the staff that provides medical care in the emergency room of the involved institutions.
