| Abstract: | High blood pressure mainly affects the small vessels, these changes can be observed in the retina by ophthalmoscopy fundus examination, showing the time evolution of the pressure and the degree of activity, so ophthalmoscopy It has great importance for the diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring of this disease. In this environment, the fundus examination as a method of control in hypertension is not a common practice. So we consider appropriate to conduct a study to confirm its importance. The study was conducted on 45 teachers of the University of Cuenca, all diagnosed with hypertension. After analyzing the data obtained it was concluded that the relationship between hypertension and hypertensive retinopathy is clear, also it found that the ophthalmoscopic examination allows us to obtain complete and specific data on disease progression and treatment efficacy. | Description: | La hipertensión arterial afecta de manera principal a los vasos de pequeño calibre, estos cambios pueden ser observados en la retina mediante el examen oftalmoscópico del fondo del ojo, mostrándonos el tiempo de evolución de la hipertensión y el grado de actividad, por lo que la oftalmoscopía tiene gran importancia para el diagnóstico, pronóstico, y seguimiento de esta patología. En este medio, el examen de fondo de ojo como un método de control en la hipertensión arterial no es una práctica frecuente. Por lo que consideramos pertinente realizar un estudio que confirme su importancia. El estudio fue realizado en 45 profesores de la Universidad de Cuenca, todos con diagnóstico de hipertensión arterial. Luego del análisis de los datos obtenido se pudo concluir que la relación entre la hipertensión arterial y la retinopatía hipertensiva es clara, además se observó que el examen oftalmoscópico nos permite obtener datos completos y específicos sobre la evolución de la enfermedad y la eficacia del tratamiento. Por lo expuesto, los autores consideran pertinente recomedar que los pacientes hipertensos se realicen con frecuencia exámenes oftalmoscópicos que permitan optimizar el tratamiento y hacer un seguimiento más preciso de la enfermedad |
