Conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas de bioseguridad del personal de lavandería y auxiliares de enfermería del Hospital docente Vicente Corral Moscoso, 2003-2004

Abstract

A study was conducted with the objective of identifying the knowledge, attitudes and practices on biosecurity observed laundry staff and nursing assistants of Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital. The risk to which workers are subjected to these areas exposes the spread of infectious diseases that can be transmitted not only them but also their families. Although approximately 70del staff working in the institution is at risk, the Hospital does not have a Biosafety Committee to conduct actions of protecting and promoting the health of their workers. The study included 290 workers, 90mujeres and 10varones. The 82.3de the sample had between 10 and 29 years of work. The level of education of 72.2estuvo between primary and complete secondary. The 76.1de all staff at risk of infection, but nursing assistants alone exhibit the 20.1de that possibility. Less than half, 48, they use protective measures at work and of these the most common are the gloves (38.8). Among workers (92) respondents no perception gives them no protection materials. Although there are rules and procedures do not meet these biosecurity efficiently, and the technique itself nor with the use of suitable materials. It is recorded the aspiration of the majority of workers seeking to have full training on biosafety standards. Analytical studies would be needed to establish causality of these findings
