Prevalencia y factores asociados al maltrato a los adultos mayores que acuden al programa de proceso activo de envejecimiento del adulto mayor del Seguro Social de Cuenca en el año 2015

Abstract

Preamble: The abuse in the elderly is a sanitary issue really relevant, with roots world wide and in our population it has not being properly considered.

Objective: To determine how prevalent is the abuse in the early and the factors associated to this problem to assist the program of active process of growth in our elderly of the Social Security in Cuenca.

Methodology: Transversal studies of prevalence in a sample of 332 elderly; information was collected about demographic data and risk factors by means of an interview, the data was analyzed by means of the use of an SPSS program version 15 for the analysis of prevalent risk and chi for the stadistic association.

Results: The more frequent age was in the rage of 65-74 years old, with 67,2% males and the 71.4% females; 50,6% of the interviewed showed signs of abuse, being the psychological abuse the most predominant with 41,6%. Statistically, the following factors were really significant (p < 0,05): for general abuse: Physical dependency RP 1,3 and the absence of own home RP 1,6; for physical abuse and absence of own home RP 1.7; IC (95%) for psychological abuse and physical dependency RP 1,2, IC (95%) and the absence of own home RP 1,9; IC (95%) for sexual abuse and the absence of social help RP 7,4; IC (95%) for structural / community abuse and the absence of own home TP 2,4 an for negligent abuse and physical dependency with RP 1,7. IC (95%) .

Conclusion: The prevalence of abuse in the elderly is really high, being the psychological abuse the predominant in association with the dependency and ownership of their own home.
