| Abstract: | Objective. To determine the prevalence of anxiety in patients undergoing anesthesia for surgery and identify its association with the conditions of sex, age and previous surgical anesthetic experiences.
Material and methods. With a transversal design 220 patients 18 to 70 years were included scheduled for surgery under general anesthesia to test APAIS (Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale) was applied the day before surgery in the José Carrasco Arteaga, Hospital, IESS, Cuenca, in the period June to October 2014.
Results. The prevalence of preoperative anxiety was 71.4% (95% CI: 65-76%) and the desire for information about both surgical procedure as an anesthetic was 66.4% (95% CI: 59.8% to 72.2 %). Higher anxiety levels was found in 11.3% of the interviewed population (grades 4 and 5).
Anxiety was more prevalent in females [OR 4.53 (95% CI 2.1 to 9.7)], in patients younger than 50 years [OR 2.95 (95% CI: 1.5 to 5, 7)] and those who had no previous anesthetic experience [OR 1.03 (95% CI 0.5 to 2.01)].
Implications. Some results were similar to those reported in the literature. It is necessary to include in the query form APAIS and preanesthetic visit to assess perioperative anxiety not included until today. |
| Description: | Objetivo. Determinar la prevalencia de ansiedad en pacientes que recibirán anestesia para una intervención quirúrgica e identificar su asociación a las condiciones de sexo, edad y experiencias anestésico quirúrgicas previas.
Material y métodos. Con un diseño transversal se incluyeron 220 pacientes de 18 a 70 años programados para una intervención quirúrgica bajo anestesia general a quienes se aplicó el test APAIS (Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale) el día anterior a la cirugía en el consultorio de anestesiología del Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga, IESS, Cuenca, en el período junio a octubre de 2014.
Resultados. La prevalencia de ansiedad preoperatoria fue del 71,4% (IC95%: 65 a 76%) y el deseo de información sobre el procedimiento tanto quirúrgico como anestésico fue del 66,4% (IC95%: 59,8% a 72,2%). Los grados más altos de ansiedad se encontró en el 11,3% de la población entrevistada (grados 4 y 5).
La ansiedad fue más prevalente en el sexo femenino [OR 4,53 (IC 95%: 2,1 – 9,7)], en los pacientes menores de 50 años [OR 2,95 (IC 95%: 1,5 – 5,7)] y en los que no tuvieron una experiencia anestésica previa [OR 1,03 (IC 95%: 0,5 – 2,01)].
Implicaciones. Algunos resultados fueron similares a los reportados por la literatura especializada. Es necesario incluir el formulario APAIS en la consulta y visita preanestésicas para valorar la ansiedad perioperatoria no incluida hasta hoy. |
