Prevalencia de hipertensión arterial y factores asociados en comerciantes del Mercado El Arenal, Cuenca 2014

Abstract

Background: arterial hypertension is a chronic non-communicable disease world-wide distribution. It is one of the risk factors for cardiovascular disease, strokes, and kidney failure.

Objective: To determine the prevalence of arterial hypertension and associated factors in traders over 18 years of the market, Cuenca 2014.

Methodology: We conducted an observational , analytical, cross-sectional ; the sample was composed of 226 traders of el Arenal market of the city of Cuenca, used the OR with the 95% confidence interval and was considered to be statistically significant p values <0.05 .

Results: 69.5 % not referred family history, 84.1% had a level of physical activity with low or null, 77.4% do not consume alcohol and 96.9% were non-smokers. The prevalence of hypertension was 27.4%, stage 1 hypertension (21.2%), hypertension stage 2 (6.2%). 27.9% had hypertension. The prevalence of overweight was 40.7%, and 40.3 % of obesity (grade I obesity 28.8%, grade II obesity 8.8% and morbid obesity 2.7 %). It was determined that the men are more likely to have hypertension than women OR 2.27 , 95% CI: 1.19 -4.34 , p = 0.012 and with the nutritional status, persons with overweight and obesity are at greater risk of having high blood pressure than those who have a normal weight OR 2.64 , 95% CI: 1.05 -6.61 , p = 0,034 .

Conclusions: The prevalence of hypertension is high and is linked to overweight-obesity and sex; with a high frequency of poor nutritional status.
