| Abstract: | Objective: The objective of this study is to determine the clinical and radiological characteristics of screening mammography in women aged forty and over who attended a specialist in Cancer Institute SOLCA Cuenca, during the period 2006-2011.
Materials and Methods: We performed a retrospective study in 859 women with histories which met the inclusion criteria. We used a formulary with 9 questions. Statistical analysis was performed using Excel 2010 Microsof Office.
Results: The study was conducted with 859 medical records of which 56% were aged between 40 and 49 years, 55.76% were from urban areas, the 60.65% were engaged in housework, 25.84% had their menarche at 13 years, 24.26% had their menopause between 40 and 49 years, 45.29% did not have any symptoms at physical examination, the results about mammography was benign in 80.55%, only in 203 women was made biopsy, and only in 33 were found invasive Ductal Carcinoma, and of these, at 12.12% was found advanced cancer, with metastases.
Conclusions: Most women attending screening mammography performed in the Cancer Institute SOLCA Cuenca had between 40 and 49 years however the diagnosis of breast cancer is more common after the age of 50 so that our study a low percentage of diagnosed cases of cancer in women who underwent screening mammography found. |
| Description: | Objetivo: Determinar las características clínicas y radiológicas de la mamografía de screening en mujeres de cuarenta años y más que acudieron a consulta en el especialista en el Instituto del Cáncer SOLCA Cuenca, durante el período 2006-2011.
Materiales y métodos. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo retrospectivo en 859 historias clínicas de mujeres con las características indicadas. Se usó un formulario de 9 preguntas. El análisis estadístico se realizó mediante Microsoft Office Excel 2010.
Resultados. El 56% de mujeres de nuestro estudio tenían edades entre 40 y 49 años, el 55.76% procedían de la zona urbana, el 60.65% se dedicaban a los quehaceres domésticos, el 25.84% tuvo su menarquia a los 13 años, el 24.26% tuvo su menopausia entre los 40 y 49 años, el 45.29% no presentó ninguna sintomatología al examen físico, en el 80.55% el resultado de mamografía fue benigno; sólo en el 23.63% de mujeres se realizó biopsia, de este grupo, en el 16.26% se encontró Carcinoma Ductal Invasivo, y de éstas, en el 12.12% se encontró cáncer en etapa avanzada, con metástasis.
Conclusiones. La mayor parte de mujeres que acudieron a realizarse una mamografía de screening en el Instituto del Cáncer SOLCA Cuenca tuvieron entre 40 y 49 años sin embargo el diagnóstico de cáncer de mama es más frecuente a partir de los 50 años de edad de manera que en nuestro estudio se encontró un bajo porcentaje de casos diagnosticados de cáncer en las mujeres que se sometieron a screening mamográfico. |
