La minga: modelo participativo ancestral aplicado en las edificaciones de tierra del sur del Ecuador

Abstract

This research addresses the issue of minga as ancestral participatory work from a historical perspective, with a strong anthropological character and the importance of its contribution to construction of buildings with land-based technologies. The World Heritage City project seeks to recover this ancestral practice, developing a model adjusted to current reality to facilitate the maintenance of heritage architecture, in the southern region of Ecuador. The general objective consists of proposing the interinstitutional minga as a current management model, in order to give technical, economic and social sustainability to the Maintenance Campaigns of land-based heritage buildings. The research performs a comparative analysis between the maintenance campaigns developed in Susudel (rural area) and Cuenca (urban area) finding common aspects that allow to understand the success of these experiences due to participatory work. The research is focused on Herrerias Street, where a maintenance campaign has been applied since last year. Specifically, it seeks to identify the public and/or

private institutions that can become determining actors in the Maintenance Campaigns, defining their roles and obligations within an institutional minga to protect heritage. Through the

organized and shared work of defined actors, it will be possible to contribute to the conservation, identity, and rescue of ancestral techniques such as the minga in earth construction,

thus creating awareness and generating a repetitive model of management to be replicated in places of similar characteristics with cost and labor benefits.
