The effects of storytelling in the development of listening and speaking skills in children of second level in Yanuncay Elementary School have been examined. A booklet has been designed with some specific stories and activities to give the opportunity for feedback in the development of listening and speaking skills to be applied in class. Moreover, some theoretical aspects of storytelling from authors that support this research have been analyzed. Also, this study has been based on quantitative and qualitative methods, by applying surveys and interviews to teachers and students of the Yanuncay Elementary School. This research has been developed in three chapters. The first chapter deals with the actual situation in the English classes in the Yanuncay School, the problems involved in teaching English in that institution, and the use of storytelling as a possible methodology for stimulating children to learn English. The second chapter presents theories of experts who have used storytelling with positive results in the classroom. The third chapter shows the application of surveys and one interview in order to study the results and draw conclusions with respect to the importance of using storytelling as a methodology to improve the listening and speaking skillsItem Storytellling as a strategy to build up vocabulary in preschool children at “Unidad Educativa Santa Mariana de Jesús” school(2013) López Balladares, Karla Liliana; Morales Avila, María Fernanda; Argudo Vicuña, RafaelThe present monographic research was carried out with the purpose of implementing storytelling as a useful methodology for teaching English as a Foreign Language among four year-old preschool children. Teachers who have never used storytelling before may face some trouble and misconception about its use, application, results and impact on teaching. For this reason, the research will seek to set up storytelling as a strategy to enhance communicative skills, especially speaking, in order to help children produce the target language spontaneously. It also suggests that teachers use oral and visual aids to grab the students’ attention in order to motivate them in the learning process and leave an outstanding and lasting result. Finally, the research covers the basics of storytelling for its use in the classroom. It is necessary to master the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) in order to learn this important language. According to previous research, the listening skill is one of the most important skills for acquiring English as a foreign language. From an early age, human beings process the sounds they hear and later they produce them. For this reason, it is important to develop the students’ listening skills constantly and effectively.
