Item Evaluación del nivel de funcionalidad de niños y niñas con discapacidad de 0 a 12 años de edad del Cantón Santa Isabel, 2022(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-09-22) Carrión Figueroa, Odaliz Martina; Clavijo, María IsabelThe functionality of a person with a disability shows the independence or dependence on third parties, at the time of executing routine actions of mobility, social/cognitive, daily activities and responsibility, therefore it is important to know the functional level in early stages, to address a correct intervention plan and / or rehabilitation. For this reason, the application of the PEDI-CAT scale was proposed to children in the Santa Isabel canton. Objective To determine the level of functionality of children with disabilities from 0 to 12 years of age in the Santa Isabel canton, using the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory Computer Adaptative Test (PEDI-CAT). Methods A prospective, descriptive study was conducted in the Santa Isabel canton on a sample population of 53 children with disabilities between 0 and 12 years of age, where the PEDICAT was applied to legal representatives and children; the information collected was processed using the IBM-SPSS statistical program and the results were classified according to the established variables, presented in tables and diagrams. Results Of the 53 children evaluated by means of the PEDI-CAT, it was found that the majority presented high dependence in all functional domains, Social/Cognitive with 67.9%, Mobility with 52.8%, Daily Activities with 41.5% and Responsibility with 39.6%; In addition, they showed a prevalence of ages between 4 and 6 years with 34%, a greater number of male population with 64.2%, a medium-low socioeconomic level of 56.6%, 47.2% of the children do not have a disability card and of the population that does have one, 24.5% show a Moderate degree of disability, and Physical disability stood out with 35.8%.Item Grado de sobrecarga en cuidadores principales de niños con discapacidad de la Unidad Educativa Especial Municipal Girón en el año 2021(Universidad de Cuenca, 2021-08-06) Calle Arízaga, Pamela Rosana; Tapia Gonzales, Bryam Geovanny; Villalta Chungata, Blanca CeciliaBackground: From the point of view of early intervention, the family of a child, and to a greater extent of a child with disabilities, is the fundamental basis for their development, therefore, a good state of health of the members is essential. that make up the family group. Special education implies a lot of responsibility and a problem that greatly affects the caregiver or educator, for this reason this research is aimed at determining the overload that the caregiver experiences when carrying out their work, due to the physical and mental effort that they use daily. The current investigation was carried out in the Special Municipal Educational Unit of the canton of Girón using the Zarit scale. Objective: To determine the degree of overload of the caregivers of children with disabilities who attend the Girón Municipal Special Educational Unit, using the Zarit Scale. Methods: The research is quantitative, descriptive and transversal. The degree of overload of parents or legal representatives of children with disabilities who attend the Girón Municipal Special Educational Unit was evaluated using the Zarit Scale. The data obtained were compiled in Microsoft Excel and the relationship of these with some variables was determined using the SPSS statistical program, and the Chi square test was used to determine statistical significance. Results: Of the sample of 39 parents or legal representatives of the students who attend the Girón Municipal Special Education Unit (UEEMG), 76.9% present absence of overload, 17.9% present slight overload and 5.2% intense overload.Item Incidencia de retraso en el desarrollo psicomotor mediante la aplicación del Inventario de Desarrollo Battelle a niños de Centros de Atención Especial. Cuenca, 2016(2017-11-11) Cárdenas Vera, Diana Estefanía; Peralta Bravo, María Gabriela; Clavijo, María Isabel; Cañar Lojano, Hugo AnibalBackground: Psychomotor development is a mainstay for learning, intellectual development and maturity of the nervous system. If a child receives an adequate early intervention, developmental delays are avoided and it contributes to the acquisition of important development milestones that will serve the child for an adequate and independent skill (1). General Objective: Establish the incidence of delayed psychomotor development by applying the Battelle Developmental Inventory to children from special care centers. Cuenca, 2016. Methodology: The present study is descriptive-prospective, which has as a universe all children from 0 to 5 years attending 5 different special care centers in Cuenca, for which the authorization of the directors was obtained and informed assent was presented to each of the representatives of the children, who were free to decide if their children would participate in this investigation. Battelle Development Inventory was applied as an instrument, that evaluates five areas of psychomotor development: personal/social, adaptive, motor, communication and cognitive. The software for data analysis and tabulation were: SPSS, Microsoft Excel 2013 and Microsoft Word 2013. Results: The results helped us to have a global approach of children’s psychomotor development. 70.5% of children evaluated had developmental delays, the most frequent type of disability was intellectual disability and the center with the greatest developmental delay was CEDIUCItem Perfil Sensorial en niños y niñas de 3 a 8 años que asisten al Centro de Desarrollo Infantil de la Universidad de Cuenca CEDIUC, mediante el Test PS2. Cuenca, 2025-2026(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Ciencias Médicas, 2026-03-04) Jiménez Parra, Ana Paula; Otavalo Sisalima, Karina Estefanía; Brito Criollo, Tania AlexandraBackground: Sensory development is fundamental in childhood for growth and adaptation to the environment. Stimuli allow children to interact and respond appropriately. When this processing is altered, difficulties arise that affect behavior, learning, and daily activities. Sensory integration is growing in importance due to its relationship with various conditions that affect school and social adaptation. Research on sensory profiles is limited, making it difficult to apply early stimulation strategies. CEDIUC offers a space to assess sensory patterns in children with disabilities and risk factors, understanding their needs. To this end, Winnie Dunn's Sensory Profile 2 tool is used to identify atypical sensory responses, facilitating an appropriate approach to behavior from a neurosensory perspective. Objective: To evaluate the sensory profile of children aged 3 to 8 who attend CEDIUC using the PS-2 Test. Cuenca 2025-2026. Methods: Quantitative, observational, and descriptive study. Focused on assessing the sensory profile of children using the PS-2 Winnie Dunn tool through interviews with legal representatives. The statistical program SPSS 24 and Excel 2021 were used for data tabulation and analysis. Results: 76% presented hypersensitivity, with males predominating at 69%, the most frequent age being 3 years old at 31%, and 75% corresponding to risk factors. Conclusions: At CEDIUC, 76% of children presented sensory hyperreactivity.Item Prevalencia de los trastornos del neurodesarrollo y discapacidades en el Centro de Desarrollo Infantil de la Universidad de Cuenca en el periodo 2015-2019. Cuenca 2020(Universidad de Cuenca, 2021-07-21) Pozo Ponce, Gabriela Stefania; Quintuña Sinchi, Jessica Yolanda; Clavijo, María IsabelNeurodevelopmental disorders and disabilities in the child population are a group of alterations that occur during the child's development period. Which could leads to crucial consequences in their development of capabilities and abilities. Under this conception, CEDIUC is a center that provides care to this population and is also a benchmark in comprehensive work with children. It is important to determine the prevalence of neurodevelopmental disorders and disabilities in the population of patients who have been seen in recent years. Objective To determine the prevalence of neurodevelopmental disorders and disabilities at the Child Development Center of the University of Cuenca (CEDIUC) during the period of 2015-2019. Methods Quantitative, descriptive and retrospective study; where data was collected from the medical records of patients who attended CEDIUC, the number of children with neurodevelopmental disorders and disabilities in the period 2015-2019; By means of data tabulation with the statistical-computer program (IBM SPSS - v25), the results obtained were classified according to the variables established in statistical tables. Results Of the 1,134 medical records reviewed, it was concluded that 56.53% have a diagnosis, of which 51.86% have neurodevelopmental disorders and 4.67% have disabilities; Regarding disorders, intellectual disability prevails with 29.37% in the male gender, in ages 0-3 years belonging to the urban area; Regarding disabilities, physical disability predominates in all age ranges, in the male gender in rural areas.
