Mapa sonoro de los sitios turísticos en la ciudad de Cuenca: aproximación fonográfica de la Atenas del Ecuador
(2014) Zhunio Suqui, Jessica Adriana; Urgilés Cárdenas, José Eduardo
This theoretical-practical study combines the domains of music, tourism, ecology and cartography through the project entitled “A Sonic Map of Tourist Sites in the City of Cuenca,” employing virtual representations of the soundscape of the city. The virtual soundscapes, available to the public online, reference natural and artificial sounds present in the environment. Tourist attractions offered by the Municipality of Cuenca were analyzed and studied. Those possessing representative sounds of each area were selected. Based on a proposed schedule, audio recordings, photographs and geolocation of different soundscapes were made, regardless of the different weather conditions at the time. Later, thanks to the service of Google Maps, a sound map of Cuenca was developed. Furthermore, this project seeks to assist the vulnerable members of the society, specifically those with visual and physical handicaps, but who can still hear. On the other hand, the collected sound material will be made available to the public in its raw format. They can be used in either audio-visual productions or as compositional material. Given its web application, the material may further promote Cuenca in the international tourism market. This process aims to encourage the conscious listening soundscapes, preserve the acoustic heritage of the city, and divulge the sounds they make to a wider audience. This analysis demonstrates Cuenca's soundscape to be a hybrid of nature and industry. This conclusion may open up further psychological studies on the behavior of the people of Cuenca.

Propuesta metodológica basada en la música experimental para el desarrollo de la creatividad musical en estudiantes del Conservatorio Nacional de Música José María Rodríguez
(2019-06-14) Zhunio Suqui, Jessica Adriana; Portela Falgueras, Rolando Juan
The present study aims to assess the effect of the methodological proposal regarding the application of experimental music in the development of creative qualities in music students. The proposal includes resources such as soundscapes, improvisation, cheironomy, foley, unconventional scores, composition and interdisciplinary practices. It was applied in the José María Rodríguez Conservatory of Music, using a random sample of students from 13 to 17 years old, as part of a program of elective classes whose duration was four months. A test was administered before and after the intervention of the methodological proposal to measure the students’ levels of musical creativity, in particular to assess their development along the four parameters assumed as quantitative criteria: extensiveness, flexibility, originality and syntax. The analysis of the results revealed that the methodological proposal does contribute to the increase of the mastery levels of these parameters in the students, which verifies and validates the hypothesis of the investigation. In the study it was demonstrated that including experimental music in music education programs, using the theoretical basis and the resources of the proposal, go beyond the expectation of only producing creative professional artists, as in addition to this, it is possible to develop sensitivity to the environment and collaborative skills, aspects very necessary for successful performance in many professions and in life in general.
