    Características del resfriado común en niños/as que asisten al Centro de Desarrollo Infantil del Buen Vivir Huayna Capac, Cuenca 2015

    Background: attendance to child development centers is considered a discrete. It is important to know the characteristics of the most common infection, the common cold, in the Children's Center of Good Living, to provide an overview of symptoms and signs that affect children in this situation and to optimize the management of the hygiene area in this institution. General Objective: To determine the characteristics of the common cold in children that attends the Child Development Center of Good Living "Huayna Capac", in Cuenca, in 2015. Methodology: this is a descriptive, retrospective and cross-sectional research. The information were collected through records stored in the "Children's Center of Good Living Huayna Capac", in 2015. The data collected was entered into forms, processed and tabulated in Excel 2010, and the results were analyzed using tables and graphs, and the results were presented having fulfilled the objectives. Results: That the most infants (32%) were children between 12 to 18 months. There isn´t a representative number of low weight or height for their age according to the growth curves of the OMS. 69% of kids between 12 and 18 months weigh 10.9kg, and 50 are between 80 and 84cm, which are normal for their age. The place where they come were urban (44%) and rural (56%). The most common symptoms were rhinorrhea and sneezing which was present in 100% of the children, and the less frequent symptoms was fever with 20%. 66% of children had four to six colds during school period. Conclusions: The children were characterized according to their weight, height, age, sex, and origin. With the results the objectives are met and concluded that the most frequent symptoms were rhinorrhea and sneezing, that most infants were between 12 and 18 month. It was also concluded that children were not underweight or under the normal height for their age and it found that all children presented between 4 and 6 colds a year on average

    Estado nutricional, actividad física y hábitos alimenticios en estudiantes de la Escuela Ezequiel Cárdenas, Cantón Cañar, 2016

    BACKGROUND: A sedentary life and the consumption of junk food, sugary drinks and other candies make that boys, girls and teens of the country have health problems, developing metabolic diseases increasingly earlier. OBJECTIVE: To establish the nutritional status, physical activity and feeding habits of the students of the Ezequiel Cardenas School of Cañar during 2016. METHODS: A descriptive transversal research was made in a sample of 134 students of fifth, sixth and seventh year by applying a pre-elaborated quiz about sociodemographic aspects and characteristics, applying the Krece plus test to measure the nutritional status, physical activity and feeding habits. The data was tabulated in SPSS Software Version 15.0 by elaborating tables. The results were analyzed in a quantitative way, specifying the frequency and the percentage (f,%), obtaining the average and the standard deviation. RESULTS: The research determined that among 134 students, 70,9% have low feeding habits from which the higher percentage is in male school students, the physical activity was poor in 82%, being predominant in men, the nutritional status was normal in 61,2% of the cases obtaining 27,6% with overweight and just 0,7% with underweight. CONCLUSIONS: It was determined that the feeding habits are inadequate, the physical activity is poor and the nutritional status of the school students was normal in most of the cases.

    Factores que motivan la internación en la unidad de neonalogía en la Fundación Pablo Jaramillo Crespo 2013

    Objetives: Determine the factors that motivate the hospitalization in the service of neonatology at Pablo Jaramillo Crespo 2013 Foundation. Material and Methods: This was an observational, descriptive and retrospective study of the records of hospitalization in the neonatology area in the period January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013. To do this, the electronic clinical history of each patient was revised as record of the institution; a form was designed and applied to obtain information of the prenatal, perinatal, and postnatal factors that led to the hospitalization of children in the area of neonatology. Results: The prevalence of entries in the area of neonatology was 24.44%, and factors that motivated the hospitalization were the following: Pre terms were 69.89%, weight lower than 2500g corresponded to 46.8%, urinary tract infections mother (40%), hypertensive disorders in pregnancy with 11.5%, children of mothers with extreme ages (31.1%), children of mothers with an education level below the top (84.8%), poor prenatal control with a figure of 22.37%, there was present hypoglycemia with 86.4%. The socio economic level under 69.1%, 64.7% of children were born by Caesarean section, 14.6% had RCIU, 11.9% alteration in the ILA and 6.10% of hospitalized newborns had some malformation. The area that most frequently admitted infants was the intermediate care unit with 39.3%. 8.5% entered for sepsis and 72.9% for jaundice. Conclusions: The frequency of entries in the area of neonatology is high, 1 in 4 infants are hospitalized, being most of the factors controlled and represented by the low socioeconomic level, hypoglycemia, prematurity, low birth weight, neonatal jaundice, ITU during pregnancy 15 days before delivery, maternal extreme age and RCIU.

    Hábitos alimentarios, actividad física y estado nutricional de niños en edad preescolar del Centro Infantil del Buen Vivir "Los Pitufos" El Valle, Cuenca 2014

    OBJETIVO: determinar hábitos alimentarios, actividad física y estado nutricional en niños y niñas de edad preescolar del Centro Infantil del Buen Vivir “Los Pitufos”, durante el 2014. METODOLOGÍA: se realizó un estudio descriptivo en la población de 161 niños entre la edad de 2 a 5 años que asistieron al Centro Infantil del Buen Vivir, para determinar hábitos alimentarios y la actividad física se aplicó el test krece plus a los padres y para el estado nutricional se pesó y midió a los niños. RESULTADOS: el 57.8% de la población fueron hombres y el 42.2% mujeres, de ellos 43 % tienen de 24 y 32 meses, el 56 % entre 33 y 41 y solo el 1% tiene entre 42 y 50 meses. El 92.5% se encontró con peso adecuado para la edad y ningún niño presentó peso alto, ni bajo peso severo para la edad, pero sí se encontró 7.5% con peso bajo. El 59% se encontró con una talla adecuada para la edad y ningún niño presentó talla alta, pero sí se encontraron 31.7% con baja talla y 9.3% con talla baja severa. El 83.9% se encontró con un IMC normal para la edad; el 14.9 % de los niños se encontraron por encima del ideal entre sobrepeso y obesos por último el 85.7 % de niños se encontraron con un nivel nutricional entre muy bajo y medio y de acuerdo al nivel de actividad física el 78.9 % de niños se encontraron con un nivel entre mala y regular. CONCLUSIÓN: los resultados muestran que la mayoría de niños se encuentran con peso, talla e IMC adecuada para la edad sin embargo tienen un nivel de actividad física regular

    Prevalencia de malnutrición y obesidad abdominal; y su relación con actividad física en niños/as de la Escuela Brasil. Gualaceo-Azuay, 2016

    The prevalence of overweight and childhood obesity in Ecuador and around the world is a growing problem; it is alarming due to the direct correlation with the development of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. The sanitary and social consequences require the truthful identification of its magnitude and trend. Objective: to determine the prevalence of malnutrition and abdominal obesity, and the relationship with physical activity in schoolchildren between ages 6 to 12 years old at Brasil School, Gualaceo - Azuay. 2016. Methods: analytical and transversal study with CI 95%, made during the period 2015-2016 with the children of Brasil School, Gualaceo, Azuay. A database was established in SPSS program version 15; central tendency, dispersion analysis and supplementary simple frequency tables and cross tables were done, to determine the existence of risk with statistical significance (p<0,05) and the association of variables. Results: the average age of the 344 schoolchildren is 8.9 ± 1.817 years. The prevalence of abdominal obesity was 42.4%, being highest in the group of 6-8 years (52.8%) and in males (73.2%). Physical inactivity was (73.5%) together with higher prevalence of abdominal obesity. Abdominal obesity in schoolchildren is associated with: malnutrition RR 2,49 (CI95%: 1,901– 3,244), p = 0,000; obesity RR 2,24 (CI95%: 1,834 – 2,755), p = 0,000; overweight and obesity RR 3,25 (IC 95%: 2,511 – 4,200), p = 0,000. There was no significant association between physical activity, overweight children, and abdominal obesity found. Conclusions: malnutrition, obesity, obesity + overweight are risk factors to develop abdominal obesity; and physical inactivity is 1,56 more risk to develop malnutrition, being statistically significant
