Background From diabetes’ chronic complications, the most outstanding is neuropathy. It causes life quality decrease, since it carries the patient to have difficulties such as: pain, paresthesia, ulcerations, and even ambulation disturbances, thus early detection is important. Goals Establish distal symmetrical neuropathy’s prevalence on patients who integrate district’s 01D01 diabetic clubs, and its association with their lifestyles. Materials and Methods It is a cross-sectional study with a sample of 162 patients, randomly selected, based on the 30% prevalence of distal symmetrical neuropathy, with a 95% reliability level and a 5% inference error. Two backed up questionnaires were applied (NSS + NDS). For data analysis, we used SPSS 15 software. Demographic variables were analyzed by descriptive statistics. The relation between dependent variables and independent variables was assessed through the prevalence rate, with a95% confidence interval (CI), chi squared and the p value. Results Neuropathy’s prevalence was 54.9%, 73.7% in men and in 49.2% in women. On people under 45 years old it was 3.4%; between 46-75 years old, 83.2% and the ones over 75 years old, 13.5%. Conclusions Diabetic distal symmetrical neuropathy appeared more in men than women. In addition, we found that diabetes time of evolution and the education on feet care were related significantly to diabetic peripheral neuropathy
