Item Análisis de la mortalidad materna en el Ecuador durante el periodo 2005 – 2014(2016) Cardoso Casco, Diego Iván; Torres Washima, Irene Lucía; Acurio Páez, Fausto DavidObjective Analyze the behavior of maternal deaths in Ecuador in the period 2005 – 2014. Methodology: A descriptive study, documentary, based on the analysis of statistical records of maternal death reports from the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC). Results: A total of 1,468 cases of maternal deaths was determined in Ecuador among 2005 – 2014. Prior to the constitutional reform exist an increase in maternal mortality ratio (MMR) from 33.48 in 2005 to 50.31 in 2008; after it, there is a decline, 44.83 in 2009 to 39.22 in 2014. The 3 main pathologies were identified as causes: hypertensive disorders (22.2%), postpartum hemorrhage (12.5%) and sepsis (5.3%), but the most was: "Other Causes" (43.2%). Most cases were married mothers (37.7%), with primary education (47.5%), and residents in the urban sector (82.3%), and occurred in health establishments (65.53%). Conclusions: It was found as limiting the improper registration, mainly of the cause of death. Most MMR was found in the extremes of life. After the constitutional reform, it is reduced in adolescents and staying high in women aged 36 years or more. In both periods there is no change in the causes of maternal mortality. Most cases were associated with social and cultural determinants and less to the access to health services
