    This monography intends to provide information and strengthen knowledge on the following topic: The mourning process. There are different definitions of mourning and most of them coincide in the existence of several phases or stages that people experience during the process of recovery. The following stages have been taken as reference: Acute affliction, loss awareness, isolation-conservation, scarring and renewal. They way of assimilating mourning will be expanded throughout the delimitation of two kinds of mourning: complicated and non-complicated. The process that the individual will experience will depend on several intrinsic and/or non-intrinsic factors which will influence the conduct and prolongation of the mourning process. Since mourning is a normal process in life, in many cases professional care will not be needed. However, in certain cases treatment will be required to assimilate loss. Treatment can be approached in different manners, for instance, self-help groups with specific tasks. The main objective of this monography is to study the process of mourning, so that with this information social workers can identify the different stages or moments that mourners must go through during the mourning process. Additionally, we have the following specific objectives: To describe the different phases of mourning, to determine the kinds of mourning and to state the treatment.
