    Agresividad y violencia en pacientes psiquiátricos en el C.R.A.Cuenca 2002

    Aggressive and violent behavior, besides constituting a serious social and health problem involves, for piquiátricos patients, a disability, preventing maintain adequate social, labor or family relations, since substantially affect the way people around. Besides the violence directed at the patient [auto aggressive behavior and suicidal acts] are part of the clinical setting of many psychiatric disorders. In this research, it appears that mild aggression [48.8 percent] and moderate [44.7 percent] are those that prevail in patients with various psychiatric disorders CRA Cuenca. According to several authors [Mulvey, 1994; Hiday 1995; Swanson et al 1997] have shown that the major risk factors of violent and aggressive behavior are mental disorders, substance abuse or the coexistence of both; factors found in this study related to the high frequency of aggression and violence. It is so in the present investigation, of the 123 psychiatric inpatients in the CRA Cuenca the most frequently presetaron aggression and violence were patients with disorders alcohol dependence [79 cases]; Dependence disorders several substances [13 cases]; Schizophrenia [9 cases]; Psychotic disorder medical condition [8 cases] and bipolar disorder [6 cases]; about sex, no significant relationship was found, since the income of men was higher [103 patients], that women [20 patients]; Patients included in an age range of 25-64 years show more often varying degrees of aggressiveness and violence. In this study the prevalence of aggressiveness and violence in psychiatric patients is 18.84 percent, the same as exceeds the expected prevalence was 10 percent
