Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable chronic disease, it is considered a public health problem. The level of knowledge directly affects self-care, which is why healthy actions improve the quality of life and avoid the early appearance of complications; This is achieved if quality diabetes education is provided, covering all related topics and raising awareness in the patient. Objectives: To determine the level of knowledge and self-care in patients between 40 and 50 years old with a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes who attend the Gualaceo Health Center, 2021. Methods: A study with a quantitative approach was carried out using a cross-sectional analytical design, with a sample of 57 users. A direct interview was conducted with the users applying the following tests: Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire and the Summary of Diabetes Self-care Activities Measure. The results were transcribed and analyzed in the SPSS version.22 digital database and were presented in tables of frequency and percentages. Results: It was determined that 73.7% (n = 42) are women, 57.9% (n = 33) are married, 68.4% (n = 39) study elementary school, 52.6% (n = 30) are mistresses. At home, 66.7% (n = 38) reside in urban areas, 91.2% (n = 52) have incomes below $ 400. 89.5% (n = 51) have intermediate knowledge, while 64.9% (n = 37) do not present self-care. It was determined that there is no statistically significant relationship between the level of knowledge and the level of self-care with a p-value of 0.421 and a Chi2 of 1.731.
