    Dependencia emocional en relación de pareja en estudiantes de la Facultad de Ingeniería de la Universidad de Cuenca, periodo 2021

    Emotional dependency is a social-affective problem in which cognitive, motivational and behavioral aspects towards others are involved, there is a need of protection and support from the partner influencing on self-esteem, identity and the general functioning of the independent person. The beliefs that the dependent holds about love, filiation, and life as a couple are distorted, creating in the individual an excessive need of being with the partner most of the time in the current research, the main objective was to describe the general level and predominant factors of the emotional dependency in a couple relationship in students of the Engineering Faculty of University of Cuenca in 2021. This study followed a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional and descriptive design, with the participation of 93 participants (65 men and 28 women) who accomplish all the inclusion criteria of this study. The students were from the non-current majors, qualified for degree registration and redesign: civil, electrical, computer and telecommunications during March- August 2021 period. The instruments used were the Emotional Dependence Questionnaire to assess the emotional dependency in couple’s relationship and a socio demographic form to describe the variables of interest in this study. The main results showed that the participants present a low general level of emotional dependency and the factors that predominate are attention seeking and borderline expression. In terms of socio demographic variables, the participants scored in a low emotional dependence level based on sex, age, current major, type of relationship, socio- economical level, number of children and type of family of origin.
