    Frecuencia y características del trauma en pacientes de 0 a 16 años que acuden a emergencia del Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso julio-diciembre, Cuenca 2014

    BACKGROUND: the high attendance of pediatric emergency rooms of different hospitals of patients with traumatic causes, It generates concern in the community, mainly in health staff. GENERAL OBJECTIVE: to determine the frequency and characteristics of trauma patients of 0-16 years attending in emergency rooms of Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital of the Cuenca´s city, in a period from July to December 2014. METHODS: It is a retrospective descriptive-type study; it was conducted by reviewing medical records of emergency and forms SOAT. In the study period were recorded 549,045 medical consult in emergency room, of which 3128 patients aged 0 to 16 years consulted for trauma lesion. The following variables were evaluated: sex, age, area of residence, causes, physical setting, person or institution that brings the patient, form of transportation, time elapsed between the episode and arrival at the hospital; types of injuries, schedule and calendar in which the trauma was presented. The information was analyzed with the database in Excel 2010, SPSS version 19. RESULTS: 59.6% of patients were male, with an average age 7 years, had mostly fallen 51.11%, and a 35.81% head trauma according to the injury. Most patients were in a 61% of the urban area; the most frequent site of production of the accident was registered in 54.53% in home. The 93.9% of children were taken by their relatives an outpatient basis with 73.6%, they went to the hospital within the first hour after the accident in 67.3%
