    Determinantes socioambientales de la neumonía en niños que acuden a emergencia pediátrica del Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso, Cuenca 2013

    Pneumonia is an illness which affects the Respiratory System and it can be dangerous for children under five. The disease is caused by different micro-organisms that cause epidemics in winter months; it adds social and environmental conditions where the children live. Patients diagnosed as having Pneumonia, who went to pediatric emergency from “Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso” were 97 during the months of May, June and July 2013. Objective: In this context the present study finds pneumonia social – environmental determinants in children who went to pediatric emergency from Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso during the months from May to July 2013. Method and Materials: it was a descriptive investigation. The study universe was formed for all of the patients with pneumonia who joined to pediatric emergency. The formula was applied and it showed 77 cases diagnosed with Pneumonia. The patients joined during the months of May, June and July whose mothers agreed to cooperated with the study. The techniques and research tools of the investigation were the review of a patient's history, the interview, home visit registration forms which were applied to families with the parent’s prior informed consent or guardians. Microsoft Office Excel was used for the information tab and to elaborated of tables and graphs from the variables. Results Male sex is prevalent getting pneumonia illness in comparison with female sex with 30%, children are repeatedly admitted for pneumonia 82% of them are under one and 53% comes from rural area. The parents of these children are young with low levels of education 31% and their economic income 53% getting a relationship with overcrowded dwellings 56%. The investigation shows that 56% of children have malnutrition.
